#3| disneyland

dear disneyland,

Thank you for being you.

We had so much fun. It was a balanced day of rides and taking it easy. We didn’t know it at the time, but they closed half of the park quite early to record a New Year special feature. Looking back, I’m not sure how they could’ve charged us full price to only use the park for part of the day… Well anyway, he’s a keeper because he was super easygoing about it all.

I learned that he’s ultra competitive, and he’s the person you’d want on your side if you were equipped with fire lasers to defeat the Evil Emperor Zurg. I learned that he has such a fun adventurous inner child. I also learned that he’s downright evil as he spun the teacup as fast as he could after I admitted that I get quite queasy from rides like that- all is forgiven because I got some of the best pictures of him on that ride. We stayed for the parade and fireworks, and left the park pretty early.

Real talk, the old me would’ve offered advice to set low expectations at the start of a relationship. Starting out his first birthday celebration quite strong meant more work for years to come, haha.

But the new me: Just go all out all of the time, with whatever is within a reasonable budget (can vary so much!) and reasonable timeframe. In reflection, other than this Disneyland birthday and my 2017 birthday… we have really played down our celebrations to save money, save time, save fuss, etc. Starting this year, we are going to properly celebrate everything.

Thanks for the reminder of all things magical, Disney.

xoxo, kim

P.S. This was our first domestic trip. First road trip. First weekend trip. First celebration of his birthday together. This weekend trip included introducing him to my high school friends over 1 meal, and him introducing me to his law school friends over 3 different meals. Kinda the trip to declare to the world that we’re a thing <3.

P.P.S. Meeting the partner’s friends for the first time is always a bit intimidating- because we all judge whether or not they’re up to snuff for our perfect pal. Our partner also judges our friends as they are a window into other areas of our lives. So my friends did me a solid by getting hilariously drunk, falling under a Korean BBQ table, and vomiting in the parking lot… while we had hipster coffee, fancy dinner, and specialty ice cream with his friends…)

P.P.P.S. My friends win because the Mister and I still reminisce about that dinner all the time ;). Thanks, friends!
